Do you agree with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky that "If we do not have security guarantees, Putin will come again"?
People need to know what happens after the ceasefire — otherwise it’s just a frozen conflict, not a sustainable peace, said President Zelenskyy in the European Council.
Ukraine already agreed once in 1994 on “security guarantees”, which were nothing but a piece of paper — according to Budapest memorandum, Ukraine gave up its nukes, warplanes and missiles, in exchange to a promise that nuclear powers would protect it.
But no one came to Ukraine’s help when Russia invaded in 2014. No one even responded to requests for consultations.
So, now Ukraine needs better guarantees, before agreeing on ceasefire with Russia.
So that Russia cannot invade again.
